Greetings, fellow advocates for mental health and social welfare! I'm Heidi Eastman, and I'm thrilled to share with you the remarkable journey that led me to become a passionate supporter of Trauma Drama University (TDU). Picture this: it's a sunny day in the summer of 2022, and I find myself wandering through a health fair in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Amidst the bustling tents and vibrant displays, I encounter Gina, the visionary founder of TDU.
As a licensed clinical social worker and former foster parent, Gina's mission struck a chord deep within me. Her dedication to providing resources and support for individuals navigating the aftermath of childhood trauma resonated with my own experiences. Throughout my career, I've witnessed firsthand the lasting impact of trauma on individuals of all ages. It's a pervasive issue that extends far beyond childhood, affecting every aspect of one's life, including physical health.
What sets TDU apart is its holistic approach to healing, not only focusing on the individuals directly impacted by trauma but also providing invaluable support for parents and caregivers. In a world where such resources are often scarce, Gina's determination to formalize TDU into a non-profit organization spoke volumes to me. I knew I had to be a part of this transformative journey.
Joining the inaugural board of directors for TDU has been nothing short of exhilarating. Together with Gina and my fellow board members, we're charting new territory, learning and growing every step of the way. Currently pursuing my Doctor of Social Work degree, I've made TDU the focal point of my Non-Profit Management and Leadership class project at Tulane University. This endeavor allows me to analyze the organization's strengths and challenges, offering recommendations for its continued success.
Yet, like any fledgling non-profit, our journey hasn't been without its hurdles. Fundraising remains a significant challenge, one that we're actively addressing. In the upcoming fall semester, I'll be diving into a grant writing course, eager to acquire the skills necessary to secure vital funding for TDU's mission.
As I look to the future, I'm filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. With each passing day, TDU grows stronger, touching the lives of more families in need. Together, we're building a brighter tomorrow, one filled with healing, resilience, and unwavering support. Join us in this extraordinary journey as we pave the way for a world where trauma no longer defines us, but empowers us to rise above it. Together, we can make a difference.
